Of course, families often have special programs or benefits in mind when searching for a good fit for their children, so, a quick look at the "School District Rankings" list may be all you need. Suburban Our Capital Region system of neighborhood elementary schools, many with onsite after-school programs, transition to centralized middle schools and then on to central high schools serving each district. Buses serve public schools, as well as area private schools. Competitive Suburban Council sports programs begin at the modified level in middle school with a wide range of intramural offerings. Vibrant music and art classes, thriving alternatives such as lab schools and BOCES vocational training, as well as challenging mathematics and science competitions, are all available in our suburban community school districts. PTA, coaching, budget and curriculum committees, and other opportunities are available for parent involvement. 2. Urban The cities of Albany, Troy and Schenectady are served by distinct urban school districts. They are serviced by public transportation, some with adjunct private busing, and also offer competitive sectional sports programs and high quality educational choices. Outlying Our rural districts, geographically larger, but less densely populated, offer somewhat smaller schools, which are also served by district busing and sectional sports programs, presenting your family with other education alternatives to consider. All our Capital Region school districts are supported by state-of-the-art community public libraries as well as the Upper Hudson Library System which puts the best research and entertainment media within your family's easy access by interlibrary loan. Many districts also offer adult education classes, mentoring programs and partnerships with local colleges for advanced students. Our many area colleges, both public and private, community colleges and four year universities, colleges and graduate schools enrich our Capital Region culture and offer our local residents advanced learning opportunities in our own backyard.
